Sayward (”Woody”) Mazur
co-founded Mazur Carp & Rubin
(MC&R) in 1980 and leads the
firm’s construction law
practice. A construction law
veteran with almost four decades
of active practice, Mr. Mazur is
a litigator, appellate lawyer,
arbitrator and mediator who
counsels contractors and
developers, large and small, in
every aspect of private and
public construction law. He has
also successfully litigated
cases in other fields, ranging
from fidelity bond claims to
large landlord-tenant disputes
to corporate and joint venture
litigation. Additionally, Mr.
Mazur counsels clients regarding
investigations and
responsibility/debarment
proceedings. |

Mr. Mazur has garnered
recognition in the construction
law field from a variety of
sources. He and MC&R were named
as one of the best construction
lawyers and law firms,
respectively, in New York City
by the research publication
Chambers USA in its 2003, 2004,
2005 and 2006 editions. Other
recognition has come from New
York Magazine, which named Mr.
Mazur one of the best
construction law lawyers in New
York City in 2005; the peer
review rating publication
Superlawyers, which named him
one of the best lawyers in 2006;
and Martindale-Hubbell, which
has given him the highest peer
review ranking for over 25
consecutive years. |

Mr. Mazur is widely published
and is a frequent lecturer at
conferences and organizations
associated with the construction
industry and construction law.
With MC&R partner Gary L. Rubin,
he co-authored and annually
updates the Construction
Litigation chapter in West’s
highly acclaimed publication,
Commercial Litigation in the New
York Courts. He authored
“Construction Contract Breaches
and Disputes,” Federal
Publications, Inc., 1977-1980,
and the Construction Cases
chapter of Using Experts in
Civil Cases, published by the
Practising Law Institute, 1977.
As a lecturer, he has made
numerous presentations at
programs and seminars around the
country, most recently for the
Practising Law Institute, and on
Bids and Bidding and
Design/Build and Construction
Management for Lorman
Educational Services. |

Mr. Mazur is active in a number
of bar and construction industry
associations, including the New
York County Lawyer’s
Association, where he was
chairman of the Construction Law
Committee for several years; the
New York Building Congress; the
Associated General
Contractors-General Building
Contractors of New York; and the
Forum Committee on the
Construction Industry of the
American Bar Association. He is
also a member of the American
Bar Association, the New York
County Lawyers Association, the
New York State Bar Association,
the Construction Industry
Arbitration Panel of the
American Arbitration
Association, and the Nassau
County Bar Association, and he
is an associate member of
American Society of Civil
Engineers. |

Mr. Mazur is admitted to
practice in all of the New York
state courts; in the Federal
District Courts, Southern and
Eastern Districts; and in the
Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
He holds a bachelor’s degree
from Long Island University and
a law degree from Brooklyn Law
School. |
